Pyrimati is a mental arithmatic workout which can be fun and stimulating, at the same time as being challenging. So! how does it “work” ? Most of us are familiar with being presented with a sum in the traditional format of 17 x 3 = 51. In a PYRIMATI puzzle this example would be presented as:-
This format will be replicated for all mathematical functions covering: Addition (+),Subraction (-), Multiplication(x), Division (/), Roots( √), Powers ((^)), and Percentages (%). Treat each “pyramid” within the puzzle as an individual mathematical function as shown in the examples below:-
The value in the top box, then becomes one part of the sum on the line above it, and so on, across and up throughout the puzzle. The above six examples would fit together as:-
Most puzzles will have a number of clues entered and it is your challenge to use these as starting points on your way to filling in all the values.
As you work your way through a puzzle, enter the yellow box values in the table alongside. They should add up to the value at the bottom, which will usually mean that you have completed the puzzle correctly. If it does not tally, then check for possible errors. Solutions are at the rear of the book.
There are also some puzzles without clues entered but they have grid references along the top and down the side. You must evaluate the clues listed beneath them and then enter the results in the appropriate squares and “clue up” the puzzle yourself. Then proceed as normal and complete it.
You may also find a few puzzles where some math values have been entered, but all the maths symbols are missing. Apply the same rules (and a bit of logic) to fill in the blanks and check your answers in the results section.
IDEALLY, this is a mental maths’ workout!! So put those calculators away. Pen and paper is OK if you find it helps :))
The puzzles at the front of this book are simpler than those towards the back, where the numbers are higher values and the more challenging functions of roots, powers and percentages will feature. There are some handy hints and tables on the inside rear cover which will help when you come across these functions.
